Sello Motaung is a leading South African doctor in sports medicine, having served as a physician to the South African national teams in big international competitions including the FIFA World Cup, the All Africa Games, the Olympic games and the Paralympic Games.
He also specializes in health risk assessment and workplace wellness programs, where he advises medical insurers and companies on a number of issues, including HIV/Aids and related assessment and assistance programs as well as sick absenteeism, incapacity and disability management. Among his clients in occupational health are the South African Police Services, the Post Office of South Africa and the Airports Company of South Africa.
He has chaired the sports science and medical committee of the South African sports commission, and he served on the advisory committees of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee on anti-doping and medical issues. He has served on the board of the Africa Zone 1 WADA Regional Anti-Doping Organization and is on the advisory committee of the University of Witwatersrand Centre for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine.
Motaung also hosts a nationwide weekly popular interactive talk show broadcast on South African public television, SABC1 Health Talk, where he addresses the most pressing and topical matters related to the daily and long-term health of South Africans.
