James Figlar

James Figlar is the executive vice president of research and development and scientific and regulatory affairs at Reynolds American Inc. (RAI). Figlar began his career at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. in Macon, Georgia, USA, working in research in development. After the merger of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. and R.J. Reynolds in 2004, he transferred to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. (RJRT). Figlar has held various roles within RJRT, and in 2016, he became the senior vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs. In 2018, Figlar was appointed to his current position. Figlar leads the company’s product innovation and research efforts while also overseeing the strategic engagement of RAI with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory entities. Figlar received his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Connecticut State University and his Master of Science degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts.
