J B Simko

vice president of external affairs for Philip Morris International

J.B. Simko is the head of Philip Morris International’s (PMI) office in Washington, D.C., USA, and serves as vice president of external affairs.

Before being appointed to his current position, Simko served as vice president and associate general counsel of litigation, managing litigation of company-wide significance on behalf of PMI entities globally.

He joined the litigation department in 2008 and was named vice president of the group in 2013. In this role, Simko also became deeply involved in developing regulatory strategies related to U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorization of new and modified-risk tobacco products.

Since joining PMI in 2001, Simko has provided legal support across many business functions, including next-generation products, research and development, communications, sales, marketing and motorsports, brand integrity, and compliance. Simko started his career as a litigation attorney with Shook, Hardy & Bacon.

Simko graduated magna cum laude as a member of the Order of the Coif from the University of Minnesota Law School with his Juris Doctor degree and from the University of Iowa with his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology.
